Peter Doherty

Peter is 44 years old and was born in Sheffield. He graduated from Oriel College, Oxford with a degree in Engineering.

Peter has over 20 years’ experience in fixed income, currencies and derivatives from Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns, Bank of America, Solent Capital and Markit.

Over the duration of his career Peter has observed, worked with and challenged some of the most prominent and well respected people in the business. He has previously worked closely with leading Sovereign Wealth Funds and Hedge Funds at a senior level.

Peter’s investing philosophy is to be patient in waiting for opportunities but to be decisive and active when those opportunities present themselves.

Specifically, Peter believes that a correct top down view dominates returns and it is for others to try to capture longer term “single security” outperformance.  Top down investing involves understanding market expectations across asset classes and identifying inconsistencies between those expectations. How the future may differ from today’s expectations is one issue, how to capture those differences efficiently is the other.

Capturing differences in expectations comes from either small, early stage risk participation where there is no clear catalyst for change or investing post event when outcomes are better defined but prices do not reflect those outcomes.

The Alceda Global Navigator Fund is a continuation of Peter’s investment strategy with his own capital which started in November 2008 which has seen profits of  over 60%*.
