Model Portfolios

Tideway Model Portfolios are designed for investors with £60,000 or more investing in ISA, SIPP and personal accounts and utilising a low cost stock broking service hosted at Selftrade.

Tideway offers three model portfolios with investment objectives in keeping with their names:

High Income

This portfolio is suitable for investors looking to generate income and prepared to accept short term capital volatility. It is a 3 year time horizon portfolio, with a target return of inflation plus 3% p.a.* The portfolio focuses on corporate bonds and companies producing interest coupons and dividends in excess 5% per year.

High Growth

This portfolio is suitable for investors looking to secure high capital growth and prepared to accept higher short term volatility. It is a 3 year time horizon portfolio, with a target return of inflation plus 5% p.a.* Alongside the allocation to the Global Navigator Fund the portfolio focuses on holding shares in companies and in sectors via Exchange Traded Funds (ETFS).

Balanced Growth

The Balanced Growth portfolio combines a 50/50 combination of the assets held in the High Income and High Growth portfolios.

The portfolios are constructed around four core building blocks all of which can be held in the stock broking account and are eligible for SIPP and ISA accounts:

1. Tideway’s in-house Global Navigator Fund which is an authorised collective investment fund

2. Bonds and gilts either in the form of individual securities of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)

3. Equities either in the form of individual shares, ETFs or Investment Trusts

4. Other investments and strategies such as commodities most usually in the form of ETFs

Tideway has a standard allocation for each of the three portfolios to the four building blocks above which is derived from its experience of each investment type’s historical record of delivering either enhanced income, enhanced capital growth, or a combination of both.

However, knowing that past returns are not always a good guide to the future and that future returns are impacted strongly by current price levels, investor sentiment and the economic environment and outlook Tideway maintains a current allocation to the building blocks reflecting their views on how best to protect capital and make the highest quality returns, i.e. the best risk adjusted returns taking account of the possibility to lose money as well as make it.
